Writing a research paper is a step-by-step process. The most widely used method of documenting this process is the MLA documentation form.

When writing a research paper/essay, it is necessary to gather information, take notes (note cards), write an outline and a Works Cited page (see "Works Cited" examples in the booklet), and document specific material used.

When gathering information, sources must be cited on note cards. The bibliography cards used to begin these note cards are utilized to create a "Works Cited" page, which lists all of the sources used in the paper.

For more information and examples (and to use the sections cited in this booklet), refer to the Write for College textbooks in the English department.  Also check out The Write Source for examples
